When pictures first emerged of the newly drafted New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez modeling this summer’s sexiest 70s-inspired-swimwear alongside a stunning brunette in the June issue of GQ magazine many questions arose. But, perhaps the biggest one of all was… who’s that girl?

That girl just so happens to be 22-year-old American supermodel, Hilary Rhoda. Rhoda was originally discovered at a ProScout event in Philadelphia (although she was born and raised in Washington, D.C.) and has since taken the modeling world by storm.

The pictures have sparked many questions from those who have peeped through the steamy pages of the recent GQ issue such as how much backlash is the quarterback going to receive from his teammates? Or more importantly, how much more is he going to get from other team’s fans? Shouldn’t he be spending his time before his big NFL debut studying play books instead of posing for photographs while jogging on the beach with a beautiful supermodel?

Regardless, the editorial features the gorgeous duo in a Baywatch-inspired phootshoot looking every bit the part, especially when it comes to the overwhelming amount of sex appeal. From the short shorts to the curve hugging, provocative bikinis, there’s no doubt that these photographs left GQ reader’s mouths watering.
Some critics were a little taken back by Sanchez’s decision to participate in the steamy editorial and are even saying that the New York Jets QB draft pick Mark Sanchez has already established himself as the second coming of “Broadway Joe Namath”- not because of any remarkable on-field talent, but because of his appearance in the revealing photo spread..

Former ex-Jets quarterback, Boomer Esiason, expressed concern during his WFAN Boomer & Carlton Show, in which Rhoda was a guest on, that Sanchez has already posed half-nude in a fashion magazine before even calling his first play for the New York team. Ironically, Rhoda was the first to come to Sanchez defense by insisting that, “Mark’s a dedicated, focused athlete,” she said. “I look forward to rooting for him and the Jets- except for when the Redskins are in town!” 22-year-old Sanchez is every bit a fan of Rhoda as she is of him. He says she was giving him pointers the whole time. “Yeah, she’s, uh.. well, obviously she’s gorgeous,” Sanchez said. “She made me feel really…comfortable.”
Sanchez was every bit as nervous in front of the corner as he was walking around in the wardrobe chosen for the shoot. “I wouldn’t necessarily be caught in those shorts,” he adds.
Adding to the ‘Team-Sanchez’ defense, Brandon Steiner, CEO of Steiner Sports Marketing also said, “GQ is all about the young, the good-looking, the quarterback has the whole world in front of him. Tom Brady’s getting a little older. He’s becoming a veteran. He’s going to be doing some insurance-type commercials pretty soon.”
After all, no one said that you couldn’t be an NFL superstar and a successful male model at the same time right? Many athletes have endorsements and appear in ad campaigns when they’re not participating in sports.

Since the magazine’s initial debut, it has been reported everywhere that Rhoda and Sanchez are every bit the couple in real life that they are on the pages of GQ; however, neither of their reps have responded to the rumor. There is no doubt that the gorgeous pair would give Tom & Gisele a run for their money!
Both of the 22-year-olds are currently in the height of their careers. Sanchez will begin his first season in the NFL this year and Rhoda’s fame has recently skyrocketed since working for Balenciaga, Valentino, Dolce & Gabana, Givenchy, Donna Karan, Gucci and Ralph Lauren, just to name a few. She is also one of Estee Lauder’s newest faces and has graced the covers of Vogue, British Harper’s Bazaar and W.
